Prime Minister Scott Morrison has promised to give $500 million to help Pacific nations invest in renewable energy, climate and disaster resilience. The money give-a-way will commence in 2020 will be given to Pacific nations over a five-year period.
The cash splash is to protect the infrastructure and communities from so called rising sea levels and help with natural disasters.
Scott Morrison is expected to arrive in Tuvalu tomorrow for the Pacific Island forum.
The prime Minister was pressured by Fiji Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama yesterday stating climate change is an existential threat to island nations and urged a rapid end to Australia’s reliance on coal.
With Tuvalu Prime Minister Enele Sopoags also warning Scott Morrison he was standing on the line when it came to climate change.
Scott Morrision according to ‘The Australian’ said Australia was working to address its own emissions and would help the Pacific nations to cope with the impacts of global warming.
The $500 million give-a-way will be given as grants and not as a loan, in other words Australia can kiss the money goodbye.
Scott Morrison believes that his commitment to give-a-way $500 million to Pacific nations is in line with living up to the role as a signatory of the Boe Declarationthat claimed climate change was a threat to the Pacific nations.
This comes at a time when China is attempting to dominate the Pacific nations whereby foolishly, only just last week Papua New Guinea asked China to refinance its entire government debt stifling Australia’s attempt to counteract China's influencein the region.
No doubt Scott Morrison is attempting to win influence in the Pacific Nations over China, while pissing off the Australian people back home.
Remembering that the science isn’t settled when it comes to Climate Change. Climate Change is nothing more than lie.
Look out New Zealander’s because Jacinda Ardern is also expected to attend the forum tomorrow and it will be interesting to see what Jacinda is going to commit to.
